Higher order interactions destroy phase transitions in Deffuant opinion dynamics model

چکیده

Abstract Most opinion dynamics models are based on pairwise interactions. However in many real situations, discussions take place within groups of people. Here, we define a higher order Deffuant model by generalizing the original interaction for bounded-confidence opinion-dynamics to interactions involving group agents size k . The generalized is naturally encoded hypergraph. We study this different hypergraph topologies, from random ensembles, spatially embedded hyper-lattices. show that including induces drastic change onset consensus hypergraphs; instead sharp phase transition, characteristic dyadic model, system undergoes smooth independent crossover consensus, as confidence value increases. This phenomenon absent regular hypergraphs, which conserve transition.

Zaller-Deffuant model of public opinion

Recent formulation of the Zaller model of mass opinion is generalized to include the interaction between agents. The mechanism of interaction is close to the bounded confidence model. The outcome of the simulation is the probability distribution of opinions on a given issue as dependent on the mental capacity of agents. Former result was that small capacity leads to a strong belief into random ...

Properties of higher-order phase transitions

Experimental evidence for the existence of strictly higher-order phase transitions (of order three or above in the Ehrenfest sense) is tenuous at best. However, there is no known physical reason why such transitions should not exist in nature. Here, higher-order transitions characterized by both discontinuities and divergences are analysed through the medium of partition function zeros. Propert...

Dynamics of Weak First Order Phase Transitions.

The dynamics of weak vs. strong first order phase transitions is investigated numerically for 2+1 dimensional scalar field models. It is argued that the change from a weak to a strong transition is itself a (second order) phase transition, with the order parameter being the equilibrium fractional population difference between the two phases at the critical temperature, and the control parameter...

Properties of Phase Transitions of a Higher Order

The following is a thermodynamic analysis of a III order (and some aspects of a IV order) phase transition. Such a transition can occur in a superconductor if the normal state is a diamagnet. The equation for a phase boundary in an H–T (H is the magnetic field, T , the temperature) plane is derived. by considering two possible forms of the gradient energy, it is possible to construct a field th...
